Have you ever wished you could fake your own death? Ever thought of moving to another town so you could start over with a clean slate where everyone takes you for who you are, not for what you’ve done in the past? Have you ever done something unforgivable that you wish you could forget?
Many people do move around to escape their past, but we tend to find our past keeps coming back to haunt us again and again. We fall into the same kind of relationships, or encounter the same kind of failures, as if we are bound to repeat our childhood and teenage years for the rest of our lives. We think we will be smarter next time, but somehow life just gets the better of us. It’s like the game is rigged.
Others don’t move town to escape, but to escape life they give way to various addictions: information addiction―endless scrolling through Facebook, Instagram, etc; some of us just blot out on various computer games and books; others bury themselves in their careers; others still give way to darker addictions—alcohol, gambling, pornography, recreational drugs. Everyone seems to be running away from something.
A middle-eastern prophet said long ago, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
He did what no other prophet or teacher has ever claimed to do: He died as a sacrifice, destroying the root cause of our problem―selfishness and separation from God. He is God’s Son, the Saviour. He said He is the way back to the God who created you and loves you. He came back from the dead proving His message is true, and is alive today to answer prayers. If you want to give Him your guilt, hurts, insecurities, emptiness etc, talk to God now, and let Him fill you with His love, joy, and peace as you trust in Him. Knowing His love and forgiveness is the way to begin again.
